Birmingham PD Advanced SWAT Course Richard Knecht, MT Brook PD In a short review of the Birmingham Police Advanced SWAT Course, I would like to say that it was fun, eye opening, and presented in an easy to learn package. Courses were divided into sections of dignitary escorts, bus assaults, airplane assaults, and room clearing. Live fire exercises were great with lots of support from staff. Multiple agency involvement is key in gathering new perspectives on training. There are no absolutes in mission planning and having instructors with advanced knowledge is key in learning what has and has not worked. Overall, I enjoyed this training. Skills taught during this class cannot be taught at every venue. I hope to attend future training programs from the Birmingham Police Department. This course has become an annual event for the BPD Tactical Unit. It is supported by Hoover PD Instructors. The course is taught at a variety of locations using a variety of vehicles, structures and scenarios. Watch for it on the Events page.
The happy tribe.
